MEC records strong rental balance for 2021

• 132,000 square meters newly leased
• Former Real locations upgraded with new anchor tenants
• Interdisciplinary teamwork demonstrates high performance

Successful financial year 2021: MEC, the retail property specialist and national market leader for the operation of retail parks, concluded over 180 new and follow-up leases with a total area of 132,000 square meters in the almost 80 retail properties operated by MEC throughout Germany last year. For comparison: in 2020 it was 85,000 square meters. The increase is due, among other things, to the professional revitalization and successful re-letting of former retail space by Real. Large retail chains in particular have been won over by the quality of the MEC locations as anchor tenants in numerous centers. These include retailers such as Toom, Rewe, Rusta, Hugendubel, dm, Deichmann and Roller.

In eleven retail parks, the former retail areas of the Real hypermarkets were redesigned in 2021 through a well-functioning, interdisciplinary cooperation of the MEC teams and positioned efficiently according to the needs of new tenants such as Kaufland, Edeka, Marktkauf or Globus. "It was a sporting challenge that once again showed how crucial smooth cooperation between the tenants, our leasing and technical property management, the on-site center management teams and our clients is crucial to success works,” says Christian Thiele, Head of Leasing Management at MEC, looking at the successful team performance. Christian Schröder, COO of MEC, adds: "In a difficult market environment caused by the pandemic, we have repeatedly succeeded not only in increasing our business success, but also in securing and expanding the value of the retail properties entrusted to us for our customers."
