Weißeritz Park in Freital is new to the MEC portfolio

MEC METRO-ECE Centermanagement GmbH & Co. KG has been responsible since 01 June for the commercial and technical property, center and leasing management for the hybrid mall „Weißeritz Park Freital“. This is the first property from the new "Retail Center Fund Germany" from Corpus Sireo Investment Management S.à.r.l.

Hybrid malls: the neglected asset class
Hybrid malls combine all the supplier functions of a retail park and classic elements of a shopping center, such as greater fashion competence and appealing architecture. "The investments in this new asset class have previously been neglected, and hence offer investors special potential for value creation. We very much appreciate having obtained MEC, the market leader in this segment, as a professional and competent partner," says the fund manager and director at Corpus Sireo Investment Management, Hans Stuckart.
"We are very pleased with this close and strategically very well calculated partnership. We were consulted long before the property was bought, meaning that our expertise and experience could be incorporated into the decision-making process," explains the COO of MEC, Christian Schröder. "After we first worked together on the Retail Parks Report 2013, we were convinced by MEC through their competence and many years of experience in the retail park segment," adds Hans Stuckart.

Weißeritz Park: from a spinning mill to a hybrid center
From 1880 until the start of the 1990s, there was an spinning plant at the “Alte Spinnerei” in Freital. Today, Weißeritz Park Freital and its approx. 100,000 m² of floor space is the largest retail and leisure centre west of Dresden. The hybrid mall has more than 22,000 m² of rental space and a total of 65 shops, including anchor tenants Kaufland, MediMax, C&A, and Zoo Schiefner. The selection of products and services is supplemented by a number of price-oriented textiles, shoe stores, and service providers such as opticians, hairdressers and locksmiths, as well as food vendors. There are 750 free car parking spaces available around the center. On the premises there is also the "HAINS" municipal leisure centre, with a modern indoor swimming pool, bowling, fitness and wellness areas, an ice rink, and covered tennis courts.
