• More than 110 new and follow-up rental contracts
• Lease agreements signed with Pepco at three MEC sites
• New leasing manager joins the MEC rental team
The rental level at MEC will remain extremely high in the first half of 2023. During this period, the retail property specialist was able to conclude more than 110 new and follow-up leases with a total area of 90,500m². MEC thus again increased its rental performance compared to the already strong prior-year period. The contractual partners include Woolworth, Ernstings Family, Takko, C&A, Media Markt, Kaufland, Deichmann, Aldi, Rossmann, Kik and alltours.
Retailer Pepco new to the MEC portfolio
With the textile and household goods retailer Pepco, the MEC leasing experts were also able to win a completely new tenant for their portfolio. Rental agreements at three locations have recently been concluded, others are already in concrete negotiations. The starting signal was the first opening of Pepco on August 22, 2023 in Weisseritz Park Freital. Further branches will follow in the coming months in the center of Schöneweide Berlin and in the Bethanien Center in Neubrandenburg. In the future, all of them will be located on the former rental areas of Reno, and the branch expansion will take place soon. As is well known, the shoe chain store has been in bankruptcy since June of this year, so MEC ensures that the respective areas are immediately re-let.
Christian Thiele, Head of Leasing Management at MEC, sees the reasons for the leasing success in the forward-looking actions and good team play of everyone involved: "By developing concepts at an early stage and through interdisciplinary cooperation with our colleagues from center management and technical management, we can make changes in actively shape our industry. Many thanks to our clients, who make the further development of numerous retail locations possible through close and direct cooperation. In addition, we are very pleased to welcome a new, strong trading partner to our portfolio in Pepco. The opening of the first branch in Weisseritz Park was a complete success.”
Reinforcement in the MEC leasing team
In order to continue to be strengthened in the challenging rental market and to be prepared for new tasks, MEC is also increasing its leasing team. Ann-Kathrin Edinger has been the new leasing manager since August 2023, having previously successfully completed her internal trainee program. “MEC continues to grow steadily. With our new colleague for the rental and conception of our locations, we can continue to accommodate this growth,” says Thiele happily.
