MEC, a specialist in retail property management, looks back on a successful year for leasing in 2025. In total, MEC’s leasing management team concluded 272 new and renewal lease agreements last year, covering a total area of approximately 166,000 m². This underscores MEC’s strong ability to deliver results in a challenging market environment, both in the management and further development of retail real estate.
In 2025, particular focus was placed on two major restructuring projects: Halle Center Peißen and Saarbasar Saarbrücken. At both retail properties, all lease agreements had expired as part of a master lease agreement. MEC succeeded in negotiating follow-on leases with the majority of its tenants and in nearly completing the restructuring processes. Through new tenants, optimized floor plans, and the further development of the mix of retail sectors, both locations were made more attractive and brought in line with current trends.
“The 2025 leasing results demonstrate how we translate strategic concepts into concrete action,” says Christian Thiele, Head of Leasing Management at MEC. “Especially when dealing with complex situations, our experience, interdisciplinary collaboration, and consistent execution are what matter most.”
Individual assignments for leasing projects outside the current MEC portfolio also contributed to the positive overall result. MEC was able to apply its leasing expertise precisely where needed and strategically develop retail locations.
MEC’s leasing services are based on an integrated approach: Leasing concepts are developed creatively and tailored to specific needs, and are incorporated into the client’s property strategy. MEC’s leasing management team consists of 14 leasing specialists and benefits from close collaboration with other in-house experts in the management and development of retail real estate.
