MEC brings Kaufland to Dreieich Nordpark

• Commercial real estate manager signs lease with Kaufland and extends lease with Decathlon

• The real market area is being converted for new retail partners

• The repositioning of the Dreieich Nordpark begins

MEC, the retail property specialist and national market leader for the operation of retail parks, wins Kaufland for Dreieich Nordpark, which has been owned by M&G Investments since May 2015. This means that the strong grocer will be the new anchor tenant in the area of the Real store, which is still located there. The operator change is to take place on February 28, 2022 and the rebranding will also be completed within a few days. The scheduled opening will take place on March 2, 2022.

MEC has developed a modern and future-proof re-letting and revitalization concept for the restructuring of the existing building for the owner M&G. The sales area of around 7,000 m² that will be used by Kaufland in the future will be converted from spring 2022. Through additional realignments, around 7,500 m² of the existing space will be rented to new specialist stores in the course of the coming year. The MEC leasing team is already in advanced talks with well-known dealers.

The commercial real estate manager was also able to successfully extend the rental contract with Decathlon. The range of the sports retailer, which has been based there for ten years, will in future be offered on almost 3,000 m² of retail space.

“We are pleased about the extension of the rental contract with Decathlon and that we will soon be able to offer our customers at the Dreieich location with Kaufland a modern consumer market with an extensive range of groceries and diverse products for daily needs. Thanks to interdisciplinary cooperation with our clients, we will make Dreieich Nordpark future-proof with an individual solution”, says Christian Thiele, Head of Leasing Management at MEC. Because the settlement of Kaufland is the first big step for the revitalization of Dreieich Nordpark. The entire center will be extensively modernized and repositioned over the next two years. The aim is to make the retail location more attractive for its customers in every respect and at the same time to make it future-proof. Approval for the implementation of the proposals that the MEC Technical Property Management team planned and developed on behalf of the owner is already available.

Thanks to the success formula of interdisciplinary cooperation, the competencies of the various MEC departments can be ideally brought in and exploited. From obtaining building permits to project management, general planning and project management to warranty tracking, everything is provided from a single source. Work is currently underway on the drafts for a new design for the center before the go-ahead for comprehensive renovation work on the inside and outside.

"Even if our technical property management team continuously provides project management and planning services for our investors, it is always exciting to accompany a project from the first idea through the concept to implementation", said Sven Schneeweiß, Head of Technical property management at MEC.

At the same time, there are already close preliminary agreements on building and planning law with the city of Dreieich. "Thanks to the trustful coordination with the city at an early stage, we have succeeded in embedding the Nordpark's new offering structure in the city's current retail and center concept," says Jörg Weg, Head of Development, MEC. "We are looking forward to the modernization of the established Nordpark and the associated sustainable upgrading of an important part of the supply for the population in Dreieich", says Martin Burlon, Mayor of Dreieich.
