Retail Center “Einkaufspark Duckwitz” awarded the Fachmarkt Star

The Einkaufspark Duckwitz yesterday received the “Fachmarkt Star 2016” (“Retail park Star”) award in the category "Refurbishment". The industry prize, which was launched this year, was awarded within the framework of the 8th German Retail Center Real Estate Congress in Düsseldorf. The award was received by Christian Mielke, Director Region Germany METRO PROPERTIES and Christian Schröder, COO of MEC METRO-ECE Centermanagement.

“We are delighted to receive this award and consider it to be confirmation that we should continue to courageously pursue new paths in the revitalisation projects,” explained Christian Mielke. "We have succeeded in establishing an excellent tenant mix with an attractive range of gastronomic offerings at the Einkaufspark Duckwitz,” is how Christian Schröder describes the achievement of MEC.

The Fachmarkt Star 2016 is awarded in the categories of “New Building”, “Refurbishment” and “Special Award” and recognises companies which are breaking new ground in a saturated retail property market. The aim of the award is to acknowledge good and innovative concepts which no longer focus exclusively on the pure functionality of the specialist retailers and/or retail parks.

Einkaufspark Duckwitz

This spring the Einkaufspark Duckwitz celebrated its reopening after more than a year of reconstruction work. EUR 14.2 million was invested by METRO PROPERTIES in the revitalisation of the former hypermarket location. The reduction in the selling space of the Real hypermarket made it possible to set up a total of 30 shops and specialist retailers, including Saturn, dm-drogerie markt, Siemes Schuhcenter and Thalia in a rental area of 19,000 m². For the interior architecture, the architects at METRO PROPERTIES were inspired by the history of the Hanseatic City of Bremen and installed many elements from the field of seafaring. In addition, the project developers placed great emphasis on sustainability, so that the building can now offer considerable savings in terms of energy consumption. For this they were awarded the BREEAM certificate with the mark “very good”.
