Over the past year, the MEC METRO-ECE Centermanagement GmbH & Co. KG successfully concluded new rental contracts and extended existing ones for an area totalling 65,000 m². This corresponds to an area of 9 football fields.

“We are happy with the success of the past year, which was characterised in particular by many new location takeovers. In addition to this, we were able to extend rental contracts with many of our existing tenants, which can be ascribed to the high tenant satisfaction in our centers,” says Head of Leasing, Christian Thiele. These existing tenants include well-known retailers such as Adler, Apollo, Chelsea, Futterhaus, H&M, Media Markt, O2, Schuhhaus Bödeker, tedox, Valora, Vodafone and Woolworth.

Trend towards Homeware & Small Furniture in retail parks

Over the past year, a trend is becoming more apparent: more and more tenants from the “Homeware and Small Furniture” sector are interested in retail parks. New tenants in the MEC centers from this sector include Dänisches Bettenlager, Depot, Matratzen Concord and Søstrene Grene. “We always try to keep consumer needs in mind when it comes to reletting. Homeware is currently in very high demand,” according to Thiele. But generally speaking, a balanced industry and tenant composition is very important, which is why the quality of service provided in the centers is enhanced when demand is not yet covered.

Consultancy services during acquisition

Due to the numerous center takeovers in the past year, the consultancy services of MEC were in particular demand during the acquisition phase. The specialist knowledge of MEC in the area of letting and with regard to vacancy filling, optimisation opportunities in tenant composition, etc. contributed to the decision-making process of various investors prior to purchasing a property.
