Teamwork & interdisciplinarity ensure the best coordination within the MEC and in cooperation with our customers and partners. Because we are coordinated with our way of working and can assign our work steps in the right order. Our team spirit and our interdisciplinary way of thinking bring us all further forward. That's why we work together across departments to always find optimal solutions with innovative approaches for our customers.
The interplay of individual services provides valuable synergies and lean processes. Only by working together can we keep everything in sight. We support each other as a team and, at the same time, foster the individual strengths of each individual.

Our coordination training has paid off:
Networking with industry colleagues and at the same time gaining knowledge of the latest developments on the market is a matter of course for us. Therefore, visits to relevant trade fairs and conferences are part of our job. We are regularly - usually with several colleagues from different areas - at events such as the Expo Real, the Handelsimmobilien Gipfel or the ECE Retail MeetingOn site, we show the relevant target groups our interdisciplinary team power - perhaps already to the customers and trading partners of tomorrow.






Whether it’s the Ukraine aid campaign in the Lausitz Center, jersey donations to young, up-and-coming sports clubs, such as in Saarbasar, or the long-standing support of the Bethanien Center in the biker donation campaign – our MEC location teams have been supporting various local institutions, clubs or projects for many years. In 2022, our relief efforts picked up speed. Not least because since then everyone from the MEC team has been able to make their contribution. Every year, all permanent employees have the choice of whether they would like to continue to receive a birthday present or whether the amount of 10 euros reserved for this should be donated to a non-profit organization. The majority decided to donate in 2022 and also where the donation goes. In 2023, a total of 3,000 euros could be handed over to the wish wagon of the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) This fulfills special wishes for seriously ill people throughout Germany.

T.E.C. refurbishment project, Erfurt
We extensively altered and freshened up the appearance of the T.E.C. shopping mall in Erfurt in a coordinated project – working across all departments and with external support. The aim was to offer customers of the retail centre a contemporary shopping experience in a relaxed environment, while at the same time future-proofing the T.E.C.
A large refurbishment project is currently underway in Dreieich Nordpark. By 2024 we will restructure our center and completely reposition it. Approval for the realization of the new overall concept, which the interdisciplinary MEC team developed on behalf of the owner, is available.
The diverse conversion measures inside and the outside facade are in full swing. The MEC team developed the design language together with the renowned architectural office TBI Architecture & Engineering and steguweit brand perspectives The designs resulting from the collaboration show what it should look like on site in the future. The tenant logos shown serve as examples.
Since we also provide operational site management on site – consisting of center management, leasing management and technical property management – from a single source, our leasing colleagues are already in intensive lease negotiations with well-known new dealers. We were able to win Kaufland as an anchor tenant as early as the end of 2021, while Woolworth opened in turn in the newly created space in 2023.

Portfolio Teams
Existing teams are our epitome of interdisciplinary teamwork: the team always consists of commercial asset management, center management and leasing management or property management for PM mandates. Through the interaction of specialist expertise, we coordinate our strength for the retail properties we manage. Better ideas result from the cooperation - not least because of the active exchange among each other. You can find out more about how we work on pages 9-10 and 12-13 in our Image brochure.

Digitalisation of MEC
Very clear right from the start: we ask our colleagues what they need for IT applications. All departments were represented and actively contributed to the development. Formerly linked to Metro IT, we have had our own tailor-made IT since mid-2022.
The following also applies to the future: Each of the MEC colleagues can actively participate and pass on their ideas and needs to the IT team - as an internal customer request. Support is a top priority in the MEC team. This gives us the potential to achieve new competitive advantages through digital innovations.

Live collegiality and appreciation
Openness, helpfulness and friendliness characterize our cooperation at MEC. Because fun at work must not be neglected. It is also important to our managing directors to get to know new colleagues personally. In a casual conversation during onboarding, both sides get to know each other better.

Know what your colleagues are doing: looks over the shoulder & internships
Not only relevant in our apprenticeships and trainee programs: putting on the glasses of other departments. That is why we enable our employees – wherever possible – to give them insights into other areas. This makes it clear what is important for our areas, what the goals are and what makes our colleagues tick. This gives real input for the MEC-typical interdisciplinary teamwork!

Events
Company and team events help to promote a pleasant sense of camaraderie even after work. It strengthens our cohesion, enabling us to perform to our best.
Announcements
We always introduce new colleagues in our internal announcements. It helps us to stay up-to-date as our squad grows beyond our own team.
Works council
Our company is based on a co-determination approach. This is why the first works council was elected as soon as MEC had been founded. It continues to be the main point of contact for all employees at all times, and supports them in the challenges they face in their everyday work. The members of the works council also help to advance MEC as a company and as a team by proposing improvement measures. Special issues in the current term of office include streamlining processes, the introduction of new processes, and health and safety at work.
Motivation
As colleagues, we help each other. After all, the best training is supported training. All our input generates new ideas. It helps us to motivate each other and drive MEC forward together.
Feedback
Theoretical and practical help: if we need to, we discuss issues or projects with each other. This provides us with direct feedback that takes us forward by understanding other people’s perspectives.
Networking
We regularly interact with relevant interfaces – both with colleagues and with clients and partners. We regard networking as a long-term door-opener and a source of inspiration for ideas.
Target achievement
As a team, we agree joint project-related targets.
Using Microsoft Teams
We actively integrate Microsoft Teams into our daily work, and use it as a chat and phone tool. For example, our internal Brand Fitness Teams channel is designed specifically for this training.
